The Association of Midwifery Educators is now inviting nominations to the Board of Directors for the 2018 election. Self-nominations are welcome. If nominating another person, please make sure they are willing to be on the ballot.
AME believes that education is the very foundation of a healthy and thriving midwifery profession. We are a not-for-profit 501(c)(6) member organization and our bylaws require that the members elect the Board of Directors.

The Association of Midwifery Educators (AME) is committed to advancing equity and access in midwifery education, in the midwifery profession, and for the childbearing individuals served by midwifery care. In this call for new Board members, we are looking to intentionally and thoughtfully cultivate a representative Board committed to the principles of social justice in midwifery education and actions towards intervening with the social and structural determinants of health.
The Elections Committee of AME is inviting nominations for three (3) board seats as follows—one professional member, one public member and one student representative. Details about each of these board seats is below.
1. A professional board member must be a current member of the Association of Midwifery Educators, must support the purposes of the corporation. For this election the nominee must identify as an African American or Native American. A professional member must be an educator in midwifery or a related health profession, have the knowledge, skills and passion for the work of supporting midwifery education in a changing political, cultural and social landscape, demonstrated commitment to the work of undoing racism in midwifery education. Current or former midwifery licensure (CPM, CNM or state licensed) is highly desirable. Exceptions to the above requirements may be made for applicants with skills specific to the needs of AME to meet its strategic initiatives. BOD Application Form – PROFESSIONAL MEMBER
2. A public board member is someone who is an educator outside the profession of midwifery, committed to supporting the work of AME, has demonstrated commitment to the work of undoing racism in education. For this election the nominee must identify as an African American or Native American. This member would be a regular voting member of the board, is eligible to be an officer and will serve a three-year term, not to exceed two successive terms. BOD Application Form – PUBLIC MEMBER
3. A student representative from either a MEAC accredited program or from another educational path toward the CPM. All students applying to be a board member must be advanced students (greater than one year of training), in good academic standing with their program or their approved preceptor and must be recommended to the AME board by two members of their educational team. Students representatives to the board are non-voting members and will serve a two-year term. BOD Application Form – STUDENT REP
Expectations: Board members are volunteers and are required to attend regular board and committee phone conference call meetings, attend an annual, in-person board meeting usually scheduled around the national MANA conference, and participate in the work of AME. Board members can expect to donate 5-10 hours per month to AME board work. Directors do not receive compensation for their service, but by resolution of the Board of Directors, there may be funds to cover some of the expenses of attending an in-person board meeting.
Election procedure:
• Any member in good standing may self-nominate
• Anyone may submit the name of a nominee who has agreed to be placed on the ballot
• The nominee must complete the AME Board of Directors Application form
• All nominations will be considered for inclusion in the election ballot
