Midwifery Researchers Receive Best Research Article Award for 2017

Dr. Courtney Everson, who serves on the AME Board of Directors as 1st Vice President, alongside her colleagues, Drs. Bovbjerg and Cheyney, received the 2017 Journal of Midwifery & Women’s Health Best Research Article Award for their published paper, “Maternal and Newborn Outcomes Following Waterbirth: The Midwives Alliance of North America Statistics Project, 2004 to 2009 Cohort.” On Wednesday, May 24th 2017, the authors were honored for their work during the awards ceremony at the American College of Nurse-Midwives annual meeting in Chicago, IL.


Research Award Winners with Journal Editor: Cheyney, Likis, Everson, Bovbjerg
The study focused on waterbirth in community birth settings with midwife-led care. This is the largest cohort study to-date on the topic of waterbirth, and one of the first large studies to focus on a U.S. population. The study provides solid evidence that waterbirth can be a safe and viable option for many lower-risk pregnant persons. Access the full article here.
